Zamami Island Adventures!
Last weekend we got to go adventuring on Zamami Island! It’s part of the Kerama Islands chain located just to the West of Okinawa. We opted for the quick ferry ride on the Queen Zamami III. It got us there in 50 minutes and I barely even got seasick. 🙂
We rented some bikes and spent the day adventuring around the island. There was an observation point close to our campsite and the view was spectacular. We even found some goats while we were there! We did a little snorkeling at Ama Beach where we found some sea turtles just chilling. I LOVE sea turtles!!! That was maybe the best part of the trip for me. They were only about ten feet deep and you could see them really well. They weren’t very skittish and so I got to swim around with them for quite a while.
It was so hot that weekend that I think we ate the local ice-cream stand out of their stock. Thankfully they had icees to supplement the ice-cream shortage. 😀 I really wish that I had brought my tripod on the trip. You could see the stars so clearly without all the light pollution of Okinawa. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind for future trips. Overall, the trip was fantastic and I would highly recommend a visit to Zamami for any looking for a weekend getaway.
